World Health Organization

The World Health Organization (WHO) is a specialised United Nations agency which acts as a coordinator and researcher for public health around the world. Established on 7 April 1948, and headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, the agency inherited the mandate and resources of its predecessor, the Health Organization, which had been an agency of the League of Nations. The WHO's constitution states that its mission "is the attainment by all peoples of the highest possible level of health." Its major task is to combat disease, especially key infectious diseases, and to promote the general health of the peoples of the world. Examples of its work include years of fighting smallpox. In 1979 the WHO declared that the disease had been eradicated - the first disease in history to be completely eliminated by deliberate human design. The WHO is nearing success in developing vaccines against malaria and schistosomiasis and aims to eradicate polio within the next few years. The organization has already endorsed the world's first official HIV/AIDS Toolkit for Zimbabwe from October 3, 2006, making it an international standard.[13]

Health care

Health care, or healthcare, is the prevention, treatment, and management of illness and the preservation of mental and physical well being through the services offered by the medical, nursing, and allied health professions. Health care embraces all the goods and services designed to promote health, including “preventive, curative and palliative interventions, whether directed to individuals or to populations”.[1] The organised provision of such services may constitute a health care system. This can include specific governmental organizations such as, in the UK, the National Health Service or a cooperation across the National Health Service and Social Services as in Shared Care. Before the term "health care" became popular, English-speakers referred to medicine or to the health sector and spoke of the treatment and prevention of illness and disease.

You're Covered When You Retire

Make Sure You're Covered When You Retire

If you’re looking to retire soon, it's good to look ahead and try to determine if your medical expenses will be adequately covered in retirement. Many Americans don't discover the gaps in their Medicare coverage until it's too late, and they are forced to pay out of their own pockets for medical expenses they assumed would be covered.

Medicare coverage requires that you meet certain deductibles before coverage begins, and you must pay significant co-payments for many types of medical treatment. In addition, traditional Medicare does not offer a prescription drug benefit.

Because of these deficiencies in Medicare coverage, you may wish to consider purchasing a supplemental medical insurance policy called Medigap. Medigap is specifically designed to fill the gaps in your Medicare coverage. Although Medigap policies are sold through private insurance companies, they are standardized and regulated by state and federal law

With more and more insurance companies offering discounts on health and fitness club memberships, now may be a good time to join a health club, get into shape, and improve your overall health. But if your health club cuts corners when it comes to safety, sanitation, and staff training, you may actually be jeopardizing your health by working out there. Here are some signs that your club puts the health and safety of its members first.
Club members are instructed on the proper use of equipment and facilities

When you join a health club, a member of the club's staff should ask you to fill out a health history questionnaire. If you have a serious health problem (e.g. a heart condition or a bad back), the club should require that you obtain medical clearance before beginning an exercise program. Then, you should be invited to a new member orientation session (usually a one-on-one session) in which you learn club rules and find out how to properly use the exercise equipment. Staff members should work with you to design an exercise program that meets your needs, taking into consideration any health problems or physical limitations you might have.

PUBLIC HEALTH

Public health administration involves assessing population health needs, formulating policies and designing interventions, and assuring that the programs and services necessary to achieve agreed upon goals are provided. Public health administrators learn about topics such as human resources, financing, marketing, media relations, quality control, and program planning and evaluation.
Public health administration jobs can be found in organizations that deal in whole or in part with population health issues and that includes health departments (at the local, state and federal government levels) and other national and international governmental agencies and managed care organizations, as well as health care providers such as hospitals, and industry, insurance companies, voluntary health associations, and professional organizations.

Health Administration

Administration occurs at all levels of an organization and includes a wide diversity of tasks, from managing specific programs on a day-to-day basis to being the policy advisor for the President of the United States. Administrators decide how to best apply limited resources to accomplish the tasks needed to improve population health.
